Emmet CohenThe Santa Barbara Jazz Society is excited to present the Emmet Cohen Trio on Sunday, February 5 from 1 to 4 at SOhO. Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer, Cohen, is one of his generation’s pivotal artistic figures. Downbeat praised “the nimble touch, measured stride, and warm harmonic vocabulary he employs to communicate with other musicians and audiences.” A New Yorker, Cohen presents jazz lectures through the YoungArts Foundation and Lincoln Center’s “Jazz for Young People” program. He has appeared in the Monterey, Newport, North Sea, Bern, and Edinburgh jazz festivals and played at many famous international night spots such including Birdland, the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Ronnie Scott’s and others. He was a finalist in both the American Pianist’s Association Cole Porter Fellowship and Thelonious Monk International Competition. Completing the trio are bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole. True jazz fans will not want to miss this memorable afternoon of straight ahead jazz.

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and preserving Americas unique musical contribution to the world-jazz. We present monthly concerts that feature all types of jazz musicians giving them a venue to utilize their talent. The Jazz Society also gives yearly scholarships to students in the Santa Barbara area so they can pursue their education in this important style of music.
