Santa Barbara High School Jazz Band led by
Music Director, Charlie Ortega
with Scholarship Awards Ceremony

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is proud to present the award winning Santa Barbara High School Jazz Ensembles under the direction of Charlie Ortega, on June 2nd at SOhO from 1 to 4. The award winning jazz bands will be performing an afternoon of Big Band and Combo Jazz. The Big Band will feature classic charts from the Count Basie Orchestra as well as contemporary arrangements of jazz standards. The two bands will be joined by featured vocalist Martha “B”. Earlier this April at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, the Combo was honored as a Finalist among the finest high school jazz musicians in the country. Just back from the Reno Jazz Festival, they placed second competing with some of the best high school programs in the nation. Both bands feature several talented soloists and are sure to “Turn on the Heat”. The Santa Barbara High School Jazz Program will also be presented with a scholarship award of $1000 from the Jazz Society.
