Mads Tolling in a duo with Jacob Fischer

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society welcomes Grammy Award Winner jazz violinist, Mads Tolling and guitarist, Jacob Fischer to SOhO on Sunday, October 21, from 1 to 3:30pm. Danish born Mads graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2003, and joined Stanley Clarke’s band and the celebrated string group, Turtle Island Quartet – a group in which he won two Grammy awards. He has also preformed with jazz notables Kenny Barron, Ramsey Lewis. Chick Corea, Paquito D’Rivera and Jean-Luc Ponty.

Now a San Francisco area resident, Mads works with his own band, The Mads Tolling Quartet and has released three CD’s with guest artists such as Stanley Clarke, Russell Ferrante, Stefon Harris and Kenny Washington. The releases have received rave reviews in the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and NPR.

The upcoming Santa Barbara concert is called “A Tribute to Sven Asmussen, famed violin legend. Guitarist, Jacob Fischer was a part of Asmussen’s quartet for the last 15 years of his life. The duo will perform such tunes and standards such as “June Night,” “Gershwin’s Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Scandinavian Shuffle.” join us for an afternoon of great jazz!

Admission to the event is $15 for Jazz Society members, $25 for non-members, $5 for full-time students, and $7 for local jazz musicians with membership. Cash or check only. Tickets are available ONLY at the door and doors open at 12:30.  Seating is limited and members are admitted first, so plan to arrive early. Please join us for a fun-filled, jazzy afternoon! The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and preserving Americas unique musical contribution to the world-jazz. We present monthly concerts that feature all types of jazz musicians giving them a venue to utilize their talent. The Jazz Society also gives yearly scholarships to students in the Santa Barbara area so they can pursue their education in this important style of music.
