UCSB Big Band

The UCSB Jazz Ensemble will perform for the Santa Barbara Jazz Society Sunday June 5 at SOhO from 1 to 4pm. The twenty plus members, under the direction of Dr. Jon Nathan will entertain Jazz Society members and guests with a repertoire from this academic year including numbers from March’s Count Basie concert as well as more contemporary jazz.
Also featured are two combos and vocalist Isabel Perry, who joins the large ensemble to perform “I’m Beginning to See the Light” and “Ain’t Misbehaving” (arrangements that were written originally to feature Ella Fitzgerald and the Basie Orchestra) and the combo to perform “East of the Sun” and Jobim’s “If You Never Come to Me.”
Band members are comprised entirely of full time students, from all backgrounds and disciplines learning to perform music at a high level as well as interacting with the some of the world’s greatest musicians including Ed Neumeister, Robin Eubanks, Pete Christlieb, Bobby Shew and others.
Admission for the concert is $15 for Jazz Society members, $25 for non-members, and $7 for full time students and local jazz musicians with membership. Cash or check only. We hope you can join us for a memorable afternoon of great jazz.

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and preserving Americas unique musical contribution to the world-jazz. We present monthly concerts that feature all types of jazz musicians giving them a venue to utilize their talent. The Jazz Society also gives yearly scholarships to students in the Santa Barbara area so they can pursue their education in this important style of music.
