The Phil Norman Tentet
Sunday September 9th, 2018 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
SOhO 1221 State St # 205, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is pleased to present the Grammy Nominated Phil Norman Tentet in a rare appearance at SOhO. The band will be playing selections from Then and Now, Encore, Live at Catalinas and other CD’s released over the last 20 years.
What is a tentet? Think of hearing the essence of the very best big big band, with all the thrills of that remarkable sound, but with a lot less volume. If you like Miles Davis and the Birth of the Cool, the West Coast bands of the 50’s and the Dave Pell Octet, this is a band for you!
Exploring new ideas from gifted arrangers like Alan Broadbent, Kim Richmond, Scott Whitfield, Roger Neumann, and Bob Florence, the band reads like a Who’s Who of great jazz players. Check out this line up: Christian Jacob – piano, Kevin Axt – bass, Dick Weller – drums, Brad Dutz – percussion/vibes, Mike Scott -guitar, Carl Saunders and Ron Stout – trumpet/flugel, Scott Whitfield -trombone, Rusty Higgins – alto & soprano sax/flute, Roger Neumann – baritone sax, and leader Phil Norman – tenor sax/clarinet.
The Tentet is brought to us through the generosity of Lucille and Richard Jannsen.
