On March 22 the Santa Barbara Jazz Society is proud to present the amazing Christian Jacob Trio at SOhO. Grammy nominated pianist, Jacob is thought by many to be one of the finest jazz pianists today. With echoes of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, he is known for his crystalline melodies and expansive harmonies. In the past he has worked with Maynard Ferguson, Randy Brecker, and Bill Holman, just to name a few and presently divides his time between The Tierney Sutton Band and his own trio. Mr Jacob will be joined by two veteran musicians, bassist Trey Henry and Ray Brinker on drums.

Jon MayerNew York-born, Los Angeles-based pianist Jon Mayer began his musical career in the New York jazz scene of the 1950s and 1960s. He has a long and distinguished pedigree, including work with Jackie McLean andJohn Coltrane, but his first recording as leader came as late as 1996, with Round Up The Usual Suspects (Pullen Music).

The excellent but undersung Mayer always delivers a swinging, thoughtful performance, yet somehow he’s rarely mentioned in the company of fine modern pianists.
