April is Jazz Appreciation Month and the Santa Barbara Jazz Society has something special in store for all you jazz lovers. At SOhO on April 9 from 1 to 4pm, we are pleased to present “Spotlight on Santa Barbara”…a concert featuring some of the best local jazz musicians and vocalists around plus some exciting guest artists from Los Angeles. From the wealth of local talent we’ll have Debbie Denke and Peter Clark on piano, sharing bass duties Randy Tico and Brendon Statom, on saxophone Andrew Martinez, drummers Craig Thatcher and Darrell Voss, and guitarist Chris Judge. Featured vocalists are Teka, Kimberly Ford, Sandy Cummings, and Annette Di Nardo. Los Angeles guest musicians include saxophonists Kim Richmond and Doug Webb.
Jazz Appreciation Month was (fondly known as JAM) was created by the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC in 2002 to herald and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz for the entire month of April.
Admission to the event is $15 for Jazz Society members, $25 for non-members, $5 for full-time students, and $7 for local jazz musicians with membership. Cash or check only. Tickets are available ONLY at the door and doors open at 12:30. Seating is limited and members are admitted first, so plan to arrive early. We hope you will join us to celebrate this exciting month of jazz.
The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and preserving Americas unique musical contribution to the world-jazz. We present monthly concerts that feature all types of jazz musicians giving them a venue to utilize their talent. The Jazz Society also gives yearly scholarships to students in the Santa Barbara area so they can pursue their education in this important style of music.
