SOhO 1221 State St # 205, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society presents the exciting Jon Mayer Quartet featuring Rickey Woodard on Sunday, June 11 from 1 to 4pm at SOhO. Pianist Mayer, exposed to jazz at an early age listening to Charlie Parker, became a regular member of the thriving New York City music scene in the 50’s playing with such notables as Kenny Dorham, Jackie McLean, and John Coltrane. In the 60s and 70’s he was working both in Europe and New York with the likes of Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Dianne Warwick, Sarah Vaughn, Manhattan Transfer and others. Today he remains an active jazz musician and teacher in LA. Saxophonist extraordinaire, Rickey Woodard, spent seven years with Ray Charles and is a member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and has recorded with Milt Jackson, Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli, Horace Silver, and many more. Rounding out the band are veteran players, drummer, Ray McCurdy and Chris Connor on bass.
